OCSTARS Junior-Senior Division is open to musicians between the ages of 6 to 18, as of August 7, 2019. Participants in the Adult Division must be between the ages 19 to 35 as of August 7, 2019 and must not perform solo piano music as his or her primary professional pursuit or financial benefit. Date of birth must be stated at the time of registration and verification may be requested by presentation of any federal or state government approved document. There is no pre-screening requirement for any participant. Maximum enrollment for the Competition is 100 participants.
The audition piece for the Junior-Senior Divisions in Round Two must be an original solo piano work from one of the Western Classical music periods, including Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century. A movement of a sonata is also acceptable. No transcriptions are allowed. Playing multi movements from the same work is allowed within the time limit. (For example, Schumann’s Carnaval Op.9 Nos. 1-7 or Brahms Op. 118 Nos. 1 and 2).
Participants in the audition for the Adult Division in Round Two must perform two contrasting pieces, covering two different musical periods, within the allotted total time. If selected for Round Three, the participant will select one of these two pieces for the final competition performance.
The audition piece must be played by memory.
Audition time limits per division:
- Junior Division: maximum 5 minutes
- Senior Division: maximum 8 minutes
- Adult Division: maximum 10 minutes
Judges reserve the right to shorten any performance during the audition. The shortened performance will not impact the final results.

The applicant will not be enrolled until the application is complete. Please choose ONLY one piece for the master class and bring a copy of the score to your class. There is a $20 additional fee charged for late registration. Enrollment is limited to 100 participants. While regular registration closes on June 30 and Late Registration on July 10, completed applications are being accepted on a rolling basis. Registration will be closed early upon full enrollment. There will be a short waitlist.
